Freeths becomes largest UK law firm to gain B Corp accreditation

Baker Tilly network member Freeths has become the largest UK law firm to receive B Corporation (B Corp) certification.

B Corp certification is awarded to businesses that demonstrate they meet B Corp’s high standards of environmental and social impact and good governance. This is measured through performance, accountability, and transparency across all areas including employee benefits, charitable work, and supply chain practices.

Freeths will be working with environmental company Planet Mark to create a net-zero plan, and to establish interim and long-term Science Based net-zero targets.

Chris Freeston, head of the firm’s banking and finance practice, who led the B Corp application for the firm, commented: “I’m excited and hugely proud that Freeths has achieved B Corp certification. As a responsible business, it is testament to the hard work of our people and it highlights these important issues and embraces the values that are integral to our firm, our people, clients, and our communities.

“At Freeths, we take our commitments to people and the planet very seriously and this status demonstrates our ongoing performance in the field.”

Francesca Lagerberg, CEO of Baker Tilly International, added: “Embracing environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles isn’t just about doing what’s right; it’s about ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come. Being awarded B Corp accreditation is testament to Freeths’ commitment to sustainability and its wider ESG strategy.

“The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, which comes into force this year, will completely redefine the corporate ESG landscape across Europe. The new reporting obligations are poised to significantly influence how companies incorporate ESG considerations into their business strategies. Leading by example, Freeths is positioned to share their experiences in helping clients on all aspects of their own ESG journey.”
